MMAjunkie.com Radio today returns to its normal timeslot and welcomes to the show Dan Hardy, who headlines the March 27 UFC 111 event against UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.
Also joining the show is heavyweight Paul Buentello, who meets Cheick Kongo in a March 31 televised main-card bout at UFC on Versus 1.
The bad blood between "The Ultimate Fighter 10" head coaches Rashad Evans and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson spilled down to the assistant coaching staff, and it hasn't gone away since.
In a recent appearance on MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio) Mike van Arsdale (8-5), Evans' wrestling coach on the show, said he's been itching to get a fight with Jackson's striking coach Tiki Ghosn (11-7).

No Holds Barred: Robert Drysdale on ADCC Superfight with Jacare
On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman speaks with
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and grappling world champion Robert Drysdale
(http://robertdrysdale.net/).
The winner by submission of all his fights in the absolute division of
the 2007 Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) Submission Fighting World
Championships, Robert Drysdale now has earned a place in the featured
Superfight in ADCC 2009 (http://adccbarcelona.com), September 25-27,
in Barcelona, Spain. His original opponent, however, Roger Gracie, the
2007 Superfight winner and a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion many
times over, was forced to withdraw from this match because of an
injury.
It was just announced Friday by the ADCC Committee that the new
opponent for Robert Drysdale in the Superfight will be the exciting
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and mixed martial arts star, Ronaldo "Jacare"
Souza. In his last appearance at ADCC, in 2005, Jacare won the 88 kg
division but lost in the absolute finals to Roger Gracie.
We spoke with Robert Drysdale by phone about all this Friday evening.
In this interview, we discussed the late change of opponent, how this
affects his preparations for the Superfight, and what we can expect in
this match with Jacare. He explained his ideas about the need for
grappling to be entertaining, as well as better popularized. He also
talked about his desire to fight regularly in mixed martial arts, as
well as a recently publicized disagreement he had with mixed martial
arts star Anderson Silva. We also covered many more topics, so stay
tuned for a spirited and enlightening discussion.

PAUL BUENTELLO Part 4
25/7 Man
© Marc Wickert
July 24, 2009
Special thanks to Bob Krieger & Heidi Seibert
It’s Friday afternoon in California and news has just come through that next week’s Affliction Trilogy has been cancelled.
Below is an extract from Affliction’s media release:
“Seal Beach, California (July 24, 2009) – The highly anticipated fight between Fedor Emelianenko and Josh Barnett at the Affliction Trilogy MMA show has been cancelled. The mega fight was scheduled to take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim on August 1st. The unforeseen license denial of Josh Barnett gave Affliction limited time to find a replacement and adequately promote the new main event.”
Knucklepit.com was already scheduled to talk with Paul Buentello about his upcoming bout against Gilbert Yvel just after news of the cancellation broke, so it’s not surprising that Paul is deeply disappointed at the time of this interview. But he graciously keeps our appointment after calling his wife to pass on the unfortunate revelation.
Buentello is known as a man who can throw bombs all day and all night, and then some – a 25/7 man. He’s one of the hardest and most accurate heavyweight strikers in the business, and he has a legion of fans who love to see his all-or-nothing approach to cage battle. They will also be extremely disappointed that the Buentello vs. Yvel fight won’t be going ahead on August 1.
Paul, I’m very sorry to hear that your bout with Gilbert Yvel has been cancelled. What are your thoughts at the moment?
“It just sucks. All this training and all the time… I don’t get to show the fans… I don’t get to fight a war for them.”
Is the event likely to be held at a later date, or is that it?
“From what I understand, that’s it.”
Is there any chance that Strikeforce or any other organization will reschedule the bouts?
“You know, I have no idea. There’s just so much politics involved in this sport now, I don’t know what’s going to happen.”
So at the moment you’re high and dry?
“Yep, high and dry and … not too good now.”
Was it hard not knowing who your opponent was going to be until a couple of weeks before the scheduled bout?
“No, I have a good training team and camp, and I’m surrounded by good trainers, so training is always going to be hard and we train for everything. Depending on the fighter, we try to pick the holes and find what’s going to work against him, and we had a really good training camp going. My cardio was really good, as was my strength and conditioning, my timing was coming good, along with my kickboxing – everything was coming to a head and I was going to be right on point for this fight.”
What was your initial reaction when you heard Josh Barnett was out?
“I was a little confused: I didn’t think Josh would put himself into a position where his fight would be cancelled, and that never crossed my mind. I was kinda like not believing what happened; not believing what’s going on… Maybe it’s just a hoax, or maybe it’s just a fluke or wrong testing. I know Josh always puts his best foot forward and I didn’t think he was in the middle of this.”
Why did you say, “Everybody’s counting me out”?
“I was just talking about all the critics: Every time I’m going against a decent opponent, they count me out; they consider me not top quality or anything. But it’s the critics… I’ve only lost three fights in the last five years, and every fight I fight hard, and it’s always been a great fight every time I’ve fought.
“But the critics – the last fight I lost was against Alistair Overeem, and he beats me and becomes top ten – but the critics don’t ever give me the benefit of who I am, and I fight hard and I should get some respect from the critics. And that’s why I say that the critics always count me out. Every fight that I’ve been in, the critics always put me as the underdog.”
Were you feeling positive about the outcome?
“Totally: All I was doing was focusing for Gilbert. The only letter in the alphabet that I knew was a ‘G’, and I was just focusing on that fight.”
Forgetting about the critics, you’re extremely popular with the fans. Is that because they know you put everything on the line when you fight?
“I think so. I don’t think the critics give me the time of day for how much time I put into this sport, and I’ve been in the sport just as long as some of the idols that everyone looks up to, and I’ve never given a bad fight… The fans love me because I don’t act like a fighter, I don’t look like a fighter, and I think they relate to me a lot easier, and then I go out there and fight my heart out. I think that’s what everybody likes to see about me.”
You said before that other fighters can also throw big punches, but you can repeatedly throw the heavy punches. And you proved that against Kirill. How do you think Gilbert’s punching power would have compared with yours?
“The only difference is, I honestly think Gilbert throws with a little more emotion. He’s known for being a hurricane of punches, but the only thing I would have brought to the table is that I would have been a lot cleaner and a lot straighter. I don’t think I could hit harder, but I know I could hit multiple times and they’d add up; however I think I’m a lot cleaner.
“He made a statement that I only had two weapons, and he has four weapons – his punches and his kicks. I don’t know what he was thinking, but that’s my bread and butter and it hasn’t failed me, so why change anything?
“But it would have been a good fight and I think everyone was pleased with how it was matching up, because Gilbert is known for coming out hard and I’m known for being technical and hitting really hard.”
Well, there wouldn’t have been a stalemate in the fight.
“Definitely not. I guarantee every seat in that stadium would have been empty because everybody would have been standing up watching the knockout.”
Were you mainly working with Bob Cook for this bout?
“Bob Cook is always right there; Javier Mendez is the technical guy who puts the game plan all together and shows you where you have to be and what you have to do; ‘Little’ Dave Velasquez, the guy who really puts it in your head to expect the unexpected and throws different workouts at me; and Dave Camarillo working on jiu jitsu and working on getting up – if a submission’s there, get it, and if not, position, position; and I’ve got my personal trainer Jason Maas who’s all about conditioning, cardio, explosion, plyometrics and stuff. I have a lot of people who are putting their time and effort into me.”
Is there any way your match with Gilbert would have gone the distance?
“I could almost guarantee, just as Christmas comes on the twenty-fifth, that that fight wasn’t going to go the distance.”
When will fans get an opportunity to see Paul Buentello in action again?
“I have no idea. Everything’s in the air. Tomorrow was going to be my last day of sparring, so I took today off because I’ve got some bumps and bruises and I wanted to lay off a little bit. I’ve got four more days of hard training that I’m still going to go through just to see how I perform… But I have no idea. I’ll talk to my manager, ‘Crazy’ Bob Cook, and Zinkin Entertainment and just try to connect the dots.”
Paul Buentello’s sponsors:
“Dyna Pep Energy Shot, Nobis Interactive, Loaded Energy Drink, West Coast Designz, Progenex.”
Paul, is there anything you’d like to add?
“If guys want up-to-date information, sign up for my community page inside my website where you get a first look at all the videos and first look at all the blogs.”

We are back only days after the last episode to update listeners on two important topics, that being fedor vs barnett's cancellation and the "death" of kimo. We talk about what happened with Barnett, the CSAC's past, how this will affect Affliction and give my picks for the shows main card.
We also talk with Kimo Leopoldo in his second interview with any site since this occurence, who was announced dead according to a fake report that got picked up by many mainstream media sites, and he sets the record straight for us.
Joining us later is Paul Buentello who faces Gilbert Yvel at Affliction: Trilogy. He discusses his fight plans, his hands, his dislike of Kimbo Slice and where the headhunter stands in the heavyweight rankings (he also gives us his pick of Fedor vs Barnett which sadly is not too important now)
